چکیده

The authors develop finite difference methods for elliptic equations of the form V. ((x)Vu(x)) + (x)u(x) f(x) in a region in one or two space dimensions. It is assumed that gt is a simple region (e.g., a rectangle) and that a uniform rectangular grid is used. The situation is studied in which there is an irregular surface F of codimension contained in fl across which , a, and f may be discontinuous, and along which the source f may have a delta function singularity. As a result, derivatives of the solution u may be discontinuous across F. The specification of a jump discontinuity in u itself across F is allowed. It is shown that it is possible to modify the standard centered difference approximation to maintain second order accuracy on the uniform grid even when F is not aligned with the grid. This approach is also compared with a discrete delta function approach to handling singular sources, as used in Peskin's immersed boundary method.

A new high-order immersed interface method for solving elliptic equations with imbedded interface of discontinuity

This paper presents a new high-order immersed interface method for elliptic equations with imbedded interface of discontinuity. Compared with the original second-order immersed interface method of [R.J. LeVeque, Z. Li. The immersed interface method for elliptic equations with discontinuous coefficients and singular sources. High order matched interface and boundary method for elliptic equations with discontinuous coefficients and singular sources

This paper introduces a novel high order interface scheme, the matched interface and boundary (MIB) method, for solving elliptic equations with discontinuous coefficients and singular sources on Cartesian grids. By appropriate use of auxiliary line and/or fictitious points, physical jump conditions are enforced at the interface. Unlike other existing interface schemes, the proposed method disas...

A Comparison of the Extended Finite Element Method with the Immersed Interface Method for Elliptic Equations with Discontinuous Coefficients and Singular Sources by Vaughan Et Al

reported numerical results for three examples using the immersed interface method (IIM) and the extended finite element method (X-FEM). The results presented for the IIM showed first-order accuracy for the solution and inaccurate values of the normal derivative at the interface. This was due to an error in the implementation. The purpose of this note is to present correct results using the IIM ...

A High Order Approximation of the Two Dimensional Acoustic Wave Equation with Discontinuous Coefficients

This paper concerns with the modeling and construction of a fifth order method for two dimensional acoustic wave equation in heterogenous media. The method is based on a standard discretization of the problem on smooth regions and a nonstandard method for nonsmooth regions. The construction of the nonstandard method is based on the special treatment of the interface using suitable jump conditio...
